A free public charging station for electric vehicle drivers will be opened this month by the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).
The station is planned to be installed in the new north college parking garage at UTA Blvd between Pecan and Center Streets. This is probably the first public station in Arlington and UTA plans to open six more of these in future. The new parking structure will open for campus use on August 22 with the start of Fall 2011 semester. The full development is scheduled to be completed by August 2012 with all six stations open, each providing charging space for two cars.
City Electric Supply, a distributor of General Electric that makes EV chargers, donated the charging station to the university. This is definitely a step forward in the direction to UT Arlington’s commitment towards sustainable practices.
