An ancient Shiva Temple in Thapathali of Kathmandu has collapsed due to storm and rainfall on Thursday (August 4, 2016). The temple was near the Gorakhnath Temple and held cultural and historical significance.
According to Inspector Dhruba Silwal of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Singha Darbar, the temple had collapsed at around 6:00 pm today. The Shivalaya was partially damaged in the devastating earthquake last year and had cracks on the walls.
“The idols of the deities inside the temple were removed after the devastating quake. Only the shrine was left there,” added Silwal.
Meanwhile, a police team has reached the incident site for further investigation, according to an official at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Singha Darbar.
