With Nepali runners dominating the open categories of full and ultra marathons, the 14th edition of Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon concluded on the lap of Mt Everest in Solukhumbu district on Sunday (May 29, 2016).
Nepal finally has a landmark named after it in the solar system for the first time. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) named Pluto’s icy mountains, which were discovered on Wednesday (July 15, 2015), after the legendary mountaineer Tenzing Norgay Sherpa.
Tenzing Norgay, the sherpa who climbed Mt. Everest with Edmund Hillary in 1953, appears as a contestant in this 1964 segment from “To Tell the Truth” with host Bud Collyer and panelists Tom Poston, Sally Ann Howes, Abe Burrows, and Kitty Carlisle.
Until now, the real stories have not been told of Tenzing Norgay and the Sherpa people. Until now the credit for success on the mountains has not been given where the credit is due.
