Subina Shrestha has become the first Nepali to be nominated for the Emmy Awards. The Nepal-based correspondent for the international news channel Al-Jazeera is one of the eight nominees up for the category News & Current Affairs. Shrestha has been recognized for her coverage during the devastating 2015 earthquake.
Other nominees include the UK’s Sky News for migration crisis, RT News from Russia for UNGA: Special Coverage,Brazil’s TV Globo for Microcephaly/Zika coverage,
Dispatches: Escape from ISIS coverage by UK’s ITN, Ronachan Films, Evan Williams Productions and Mediadante, and Malaysia Al Jazeera English coverage of Afghanistan: No Country for Women among others.
As per the statement released by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Tuesday (August 9, 2016), the winners will be announced in New York on September 21, at a ceremony at Rose Hall, at Lincoln Center. The international Emmy winners will be recognized alongside their American news and documentary peers.
