Australia based company Solangture has been screening Nepali movies for the past two years for the Nepali audience residing there. Giving continuity to their work, they have also obtained the rights to showcase the highly anticipated film Highway in the country.
Solanture had previously released films like God Lives In The Himalayas, Nai Nabhannu La and Kusume Rumal-2. Now they have bought the Deepak Rauniyar directed movie for a huge sum. According to the company’s director Raju Shakya, they have already paid Rs 16 Lakhs in advance.
Speaking at a press conference held on May 9 through Skype, Shakya said that they have made the best decision by choosing Highway because it is just the kind of movie they were looking for. The upcoming drama will have regular screenings in eight different cities and since it is coming with English subtitles, it will also help include Australian audience letting them have an idea about Nepal’s situation as well as of Nepali cinema.
Scheduled to be released on June 15 in Nepal, Highway will be screened in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Canberra, Brisbane, Darwin, Adelaide and at theaters in various states from the last week of July.
The plot of Highway centers on a bus heading its way from Ilam to Kathmandu whose journey is suddenly disrupted due to an ongoing strike and a reflection of the life of each passenger. It stars Loot fame Saugat Malla, Karma, Richa Sharma, Vinay Shrestha, Rajan Khatiwada, Sandeep Chhetri, Mamta Sherchan, Asha Magrati and even Rabindra Mishra from BBC Sewa.
