The highly anticipated SAFF Championship 2013 kicked off on August 31, Saturday at Dashrath Stadium. This year’s South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship, will be the 10th edition for men’s national football teams organized by the SAFF. Hosted by Nepal for the second time, the tournament will continue till September 11 and will see all the eight SAARC nations competing for the title.
Teams have been divided into two groups. Nepal, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan will play under Group A while Group B will have Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives and Sri Lanka.
The opening match of the tournament took place between Nepal and Bangladesh and with an outstanding performance, Nepal defended Bangladesh 2-0. Both goals came in the first half from strikers Anil Gurung and Bharat Khawas.
Today’s (September 1, 2013) match will be played between India and Pakistan at Dashrath Stadium at 18:30.
