A mugger, who was on the run after robbing a certain amount of cash and gold, died after falling into a well in the Jhochhen area of Basantapur, Kathmandu. According to Basantapur Police Department’s Vedh Bista, the deceased has not been identified yet. Nevertheless, his partner in crime, who was initially caught by the locals, is currently in the custody of the police as reported by Ekantipur.
The felon has been identified has 31-year-old Chetan Lama from Kavre. Lama and the deceased had stolen cash and gold from the residence of four goldsmiths of Bengal nationality at Dharmapath at 9:15pm. The goldsmiths work for Shivashakti Jewellers located at Gaushala. Bista further revealed that the loot consisted of a cash amount of Rs 22,740 and 6-7 tola of gold.
The two were trying to jump over the wall of a Jhochhen guest house when one of them fell into the well. The unidentified felon was rescued from the well and was pronounced dead by a doctor after he was taken to Bir Hospital. His body has been taken to Teaching Hospital for postmortem. Lama told the police that he had met the deceased only recently before planning the robbery.
