Prabal Gurung, a very successful Nepali fashion designer currently residing in New York, won the Swarovski Award for Womenswear at the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards held at New York city on June 6, 2011.
Born in Singapore and raised in Kathmandu, Prabal Gurung Prabal attended the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi and Parsons School of Design in New York city before launching his first collection in 2009. His has designed dresses for many Hollywood celebrities like Demi Moore and Zoe Saldana as well as for Oprah and the First lady Michelle Obama.
Prabal was the recipient of the Ecco Domani Fashion Fund Award as well as a nominee for the 2010 CFDA Swarovski Womenswear Award. He was selected as runner-up for the 2010 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund in November 2010. Prabal was featured by USA Network as one of the twelve Character Approved Award recipients for 2011. He was recently appointed as a goodwill ambassador for Maiti Nepal, a non profit organization fighting for human trafficking in Nepal run by 2010 CNN Hero Anuradha Koirala.
Prabal Gurung was featured as the TexasNepal Personality of the Month for May 2010.
