Directed by Subarna Thapa, the film Sungava – Dance of the Orchid has been  selected for screening at three international films festivals; the Montreal International Film Festival, the International Hamburg Film Fest, and the International Festival of Young Directors, France.

The movie, starring Nisha Adhikari, Deeya Makey, Saugat Malla, Basundhara Bhusal and Laxmi Giri among others, was able to create a stir with its story line when the news of its production surfaced. It revolves around two women who are in love with each other, and the complications of their relationship.

“Although the subject matter is new to Nepali cinema, it is not so to our society. Same sex relationships have always been there but not many have initiated depicted such issues in any form of art, ” said director Thapa in an interview during the filming the movie,  the working title of which was “Snow Flowers”. Popular instrumental ensemble Kutumba have provided the music to the picture.
