The Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) is going to be investigated by the Social Welfare Council for the humanitarian organisation’s reconstruction and rehabilitation-related activities after it was found to be spending millions meant for earthquake victims on administrative activities and the purchase of various luxury items.
According to Vice-Chairman of the council Nilmani Baral, the council’s attention was drawn after reports emerged about NRCS’s irregularities in earthquake reconstruction-related activities and that the council will investigate the matter immediately and find out the reality.
Also, as per the documents obtained by Republica national daily, the NRCS has already spent Rs 245 million granted by various donors for the reconstruction activities on salaries and allowances for its officials, foreign trips, a sophisticated office, and the purchase of items like cars, motorbikes, scooters, computers, pen drives and other accessories.
