Great news for Nepali cricket fans and all Nepalis in general! Another milestone has been covered in the history of Nepali sports after Nepali national team became a Division 1 contender.
Despite placing fourth in World Cricket League Division 2, Nepali national team will get chance to participate in the tournament of Division 1. Along with this, Nepali will also get chance to play qualifiers for the ODI World Cup-2019.
Nepal secured fourth place in the Division 2 cricket held in Namibia that concluded on Saturday.
There is a provision that top two teams will earn promotion to Division 1, third and fourth will secure their place in Division 2 and last two teams will be relegated in the tournament participated by six teams.
However, International Cricket Council (ICC) is preparing to give chance to Kenya (3rd) and Nepal (4th) to play World Cricket League Championship that has the status of Division 1. A working committee meeting of ICC to be held in Dubai on Wednesday and Thursday will take formal decision to that end, sources at Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) told Myrepublica quoting Coach Pubudu Dassanayake.
“Nepal has been selected for World Cricket League Division 1, ICC will take formal decision next week,” Myrepublica quoted Pupudu, “Top four teams of this tournament will play 50-over World Cricket League Championship with Division 1 teams holding ODI status. We will miss only Intercontinental Cup. Details will follow after meeting of ICC.” Nepal’s Division 1 dream was dashed on Friday as it lost to Kenya by five wickets in its last round-robin match.
