Ncell issued a statement on Monday (August 11, 2014) saying that the competition targeted young developers and mobile enthusiasts. It was launched as a part of Ncell’s corporate social initiative with an aim of unleashing ‘the country’s digital potential and inspire youth to build innovative businesses’.

The competition has four categories: agriculture, corporate solutions, education and tourism. “Agriculture, corporate, education and tourism are major contributors of the Nepali economy, wherein creative youth can make a huge difference by coming up with tools to enhance efficiency and productivity. These are also the sectors around which young innovative businesses can thrive,” said Sanju Koirala, the corporate communication director of Ncell, says.

The thematic winners would get cash prizes of Rs 250,000 each while the overall winner will bag an additional Rs 500,000 in cash along with Ncell sponsorship to participate in a similar overseas app camp, Ncell says.

Apps can be created for any platform — Android, Apple iOS, Windows, SMS or J2ME, among others, Ncell says

Registration for the competition can be made for free at http://www.ncell.com.np/appcamp.

Registration closes at noon on October 28, 2014.

In other Ncell news, the mobile network company has also launched Ncell App for subscribers that allows them to access information about Ncell products, services, schemes, and also supports them to easily check their balance, top up balance, buy data packs and other services, and transfer balance, among others.

“We are glad to unveil to our customers Ncell App that provides a complete self-service solution. We believe it will ease their operations and benefit them greatly,” Erim Taylanlar, the CEO of Ncell, says.

The App comes with different features for pre-paid and postpaid subscribers. The features are automatically loaded to subscribers’ handsets depending on the type of SIM they have.
