Tension ran high in Simara of Bara district following clash between locals demanding to establish service centers of Kalaiya-based District Land Revenue Office and District Survey Office and police on Sunday.
The clash occurred while protesters were holding a corner assembly at Simrachowk this morning.
According to CPN-UML leader Krishna Poudel, police lobbed some 100 shells of tear gas targeting the protesters. Following which, protesters torched the Simarachowk-based police post.
After the government decided to establish service centers in Simara, local supported by some party representatives and led by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) had staged protests in Kalaiya for about a week.
Then, bowing down to the pressure, the government had withdrawn the decision.
Simara locals launched agitations against the decision from the next day.
