Legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar has sung a new Nepali song. Titled “Bachunjel”, it is a collaboration between her and influential singer Ram Krishna Dhakal and is the title track of Dhakal’s upcoming album which is slated for release in September.
Although this is her official third recording in the language, it is for the first time that the veteran artiste has performed a track composed by a Nepali musician. He happens to be Shikhar Santosh Sharma who has been living in Mumbai for a decade and has worked with big names in the Indian music industry like Abhijeet Sawant, Kailash Kher and Sunidhi Chauhan. He seems to have initiated the whole idea and has been working very hard to get Mangeshkar to do the collaboration. “Bachunjel”, which is said to be about human compassion, has been penned by one of the Nepali music industry’s famed lyricists Anand Adhikari.
Mangeshkar had previously provided playback vocals for the classic Nepali movie Maitighar. The new offering is certainly a big milestone for our music industry.
