A young couple in Jhapa have committed suicide. They were reportedly found hanging in a single noose on a tree on Friday (January 20, 2017).

The deceased, who have been identified as Asmita Tolami (23) and her boyfriend Ishwor Bhattarai (25) of Kankai Municipality, were said to be in a relationship.

The Deputy Superintendent of the Birtamod Area Police Office Keshav Thebe informs the two had come out from their respective houses at around 5 am and hanged themselves to death on a tree. The bodies were found in a hugging position.

It is suspected that the duo decided to end their lives after their families did not accept their intercaste relationship. Tolami belongs to the low-caste Dalit community.

It has been learned that her family had fixed her marriage with a same-caste man on coming February 6.
