Team Nepal has made a winning start trailing USA by six wickets in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers on Friday.
Nepal chased 122 runs target losing four wickets with two balls to spare as Gyanendra scored 52 runs facing only 43 deliveries that included a six and six boundaries in the Group A match at Belfast, Stormont in Ireland.
Nepali bowler Shakti Gauchan and Basanta Regmi bagged three wickets each while Sompal Kami two and Sagar Pun one to limit US team to 121.
Although Nepal made poor start while chasing 122 runs as opener Sagar Pun (6 off 5) was bowled by Jasdeep Singh in the first over. Singh also also claimed Gyanendra’s wicket in the 15.1 over.
However, Gyanendra shared highest 78-runs partnership for the second wicket with Anil Mandal (29 off 42), the second highest run scorer for Nepal, to guide Nepal towards a much needed victory.
Nepal will next play Namibia in its second match on Saturday at the same venue.
