To mark the 37th World Tourism Day, a felicitation event was held at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Bhrikuti Mandap on September 27, 2016. It was jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), NTB, All tourism associations and tourism stakeholders and NGOs. Present at the event as special guests were Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction Sita Devi Yadav, MoCTCA Secretary Shankar Prasad Adhikari, NTB CEO Deepak Raj Joshi, and MoCTCA Joint Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyaya.
Various personalities and associations, who have contributed to the tourism sector directly or indirectly, were honoured with certificates, including the organizations that earned the most in terms of foreign currency in the fiscal year 2072/73. Apart from that, there were cultural dance performances by the students of Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management and other dance groups.
One of the highlights of the function was Olympian Baikuntha Manandhar being declared the Goodwill Ambassador of the annual event Buddha Peace Flame March Run –Lumbini to Mount Everest.
With the aim of promoting villages as potential tourist destinations, three villages were announced as the village destinations for this year. They are Dumsi Derai in Tanahun, Bhada Gaun in Kanchanpur and a village in Humla.
