According to the latest report by Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), telecom service providers in the country added 2.14 million new subscribers during mid-October to mid-November of 2011. The total telecom subscriber base now stands at 14.75 million with overall teledensity of 55.41 percent of the population.
Internet subscribers grew marginally from 3.59 million to 3.75 million during the same period. Nepal Telecom added 130,000 new subscribers to take its subscriber base to 7.18 million while leading GSM provider, Ncell added 350,000 new subscribers. Ncell’s total customer base now stands at 6.68 million.
Other telecom providers like UTL, STM Smart and Nepal Satellite are still way behind and could not increase their customer base significantly. UTL has 588,307 subscribers whereas Smart reached 193,064 subscribers and Nepal Satellite’s customer base stands at 98,985.
