Ncell, the leading private telecom provider has posted a record 122 percent growth in revenue in fiscal year 2010-11. According to Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), Ncell recorded a revenue of Rs 17.53 billion compared to Rs 7.89 billion in fiscal year 2009-10. Ncell has also added 2.7 million new subscribers and its total subscriber base has now surpassed 7 million.
The company is now Nepal’s largest mobile service provider and is expected to surpass the state-owned Nepal Telecom as the largest revenue earner in the next few years. Nepal Telecom’s revenue for the same period was Rs 26.4 billion, a meager increase of less than 5 percent compared to the previous year and added 1.27 million new subscribers.
According to NTA, the total income of the telecom sector has increased by 32 percent in the last fiscal year and total revenue now stands at Rs 45.36 billion from Rs 34.37 billion in fiscal year 2009-10. Six telecom providers added a total of 4.23 million new subscribers in the past year.
