Baghmara Community Forest, the buffer zone of the Chitwan National Park will once again host the International Elephant Race 2011 from December 26 to 28. The event is organized by the Chitwan Regional Hotel Association of Nepal with the aim of promoting internal and external tourism of Sauraha. Nepal Tourism Board is also supporting the event.

The event will feature Elephant Race, Boat Race, Elephant Football, Elephant Beauty Contest and Bullock Cart Race. The organizers informed the media that they have trained 20 elephants and calves for the event.

The event is co-sponsored by Bachhauli VDC, Mrigakunja Consumers Committee, Baghmara Buffer Zone Community Forest, United Elephant Management Cooperative Limited, Sauraha ourism Entrepreneurs Group and Restaurant and Bar Association of Sauraha.

Chitwan also host the Elephant Polo World Cup every year and the Elephant Race is now in its eighth edition and attracts many foreign tourists as well as Nepali citizens.
