Traders who have been protesting for the last four days demanding the relocation of the Inland revenue office in Bardibas clashed with the police which brought all transportation services along the East-West Highway to a halt.
The clash ensued after police personnel began removing beds, benches and banners placed on the road by the traders. According to police officials, no casualties have been reported but both traders and police personnel have suffered minor injuries.
The government had earlier planned to relocate the Inland Revenue office to Bardibas from Janakpur but canceled its plan after Janakpur-based entrepreneurs protested the decision. The government had decided to set up the new offices across the country to ensure easy availability of the government’s tax related services.
Bardibas traders have warned the government that it will be forced to carry out nationwide strikes if the taxpayers’ office is not operated in Bardibas.
