The Department of Commerce (DoC) has reported that it has found many fuel dealers hoarding fuel products, intending to sell it after the price hike or in the black market. A team of DoC officials and consumer rights activists had carried out a surprise check on petrol pumps in the valley following complaints by the consumers.
The inspection team found 3,545 liters of fuel at Jay Mata Kailka Oil Store and 2,451 liters of oil at Shyama Oil Store, Kalanki. Both petrol pumps had halted its fuel supply even though they were found to have a significant quantity in stock.DoC has sealed the petrol pumps and have requested the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) to take further action against them.
Ripumardini Oil Store was found selling petrol short by 50ml and diesel by 135ml per liter. Th DoC has sent the records of the fuel transaction of the store to the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology (NBSM).
DoC officials had monitored 57 petrol pumps in the valley and its report has revealed that most of the dealers had created an artificial shortage even though they had enough fuel in stock.
