China has suddenly postponed the proposed visit of its premier, Wen Jiabao to Nepal even though the Nepali government had informed the media that the Chinese premier was visiting Nepal on December 20 for a three-day visit.
According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayankaji Shrestha, the Chinese premier’s visit has been rescheduled due to the premier’s need to be back home to discuss economic issues.
The Chinese sources in Beijing informed the Nepali media that Wen Jaibao would probably visit Nepal in the first week of January. Jiabao was supposed to come to Nepal after a visit to Myanmar which has also been postponed.
Nepal and China were planning to sign the Bilateral Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement (BIPPA) and Nepal was also seeking US$ 5 billion in credit for its development projects.
