A helicopter belonging to Fishtail Air crashed in Madanpur of Nuwakot district of central Nepal on Monday, according to a senior official in the district. All seven on board including a newborn baby, five adults and captain died in the tragic chopper accident that occurred in a forest at Betini, Belkot of the district.
The ill-fated 9N AKA chopper was bound for Kathmandu from Sirdibas VDC in Gorkha district, carrying a 19-year-old woman facing medical complications after childbirth, and her five-day-old baby. They were accompanied by her parents-in-law Kitman Gurung, 65, Agyani Gurung, 56, Laxmi Gurung of the same village, and health worker Nisha Tamanag of Itahari, Sunsari district.
Captain Ranjan Limbu was piloting the chopper, which was ferrying a critical patient among others from remote Philim of Gorkha district. Limbu was flying Fishtail choppers since 2010 and had already acquired over 2,500 flight hours, according to the company’s website.
