As fascinating and bizarre as it may sound, a pregnant 44-year-old mother of three and grandmother of one claimed the women´s title in the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon which was held on May 29, Wednesday.
In the pursuit of claiming her second Everest Marathon title, Ang Dami Sherpa reportedly went against the request of her family not to participate in the event. Sherpa finished the marathon in 6 hours 2 minutes and 10 seconds, being ahead of Mani Kala Rai who took 6 hours 15 minutes 20 seconds to reach the finish line. Tara Ketner of the USA stood third with a timing of 7 hours 28 minutes 10 seconds.
The top three winners bagged Rs 50,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The last time Sherpa had won the title was in 2006. She feels pleased to win the title at this age and is determined to run in the coming editions as well.
