Daily life of general public across the country was affected by local transportation bandh two days in a row. Commuters faced hardship as the public transport services, including taxis, stayed off the road during the imposed strike.
Transport workers and entrepreneurs had imposed strike to press the government to fulfill their demands of establishment of a separate transport ministry, recognition of the transport sector as an industry and withdrawal of the rights — earlier exercised by the Department of Transport Management — given to traffic police.
Now the issue has been resolved between the transporters and the government, finally agreeing on Saturday to address the demands of agitating transport workers and transport entrepreneurs by constituting a task-force to settle the unsettled issues.
The transport strike has been called off and people will be able to travel on public vehicles from Sunday.
