The 18th Summit of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) has commenced in Kathmandu on Wednesday, November 26, 2014.
Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen handed over the SAARC Chairmanship to Nepali PM Sushil Koirala as per the SAARC Charter. PM Koira officially inaugurated the grand assembly of South Asian executive heads in a ceremony held at Rastriya Sabha Griha in the capital.
In his inaugural speech, PM Koirala emphasized on common concepts and co-work to move ahead collectively. “There are numerous challenges for development of this region and we need to go ahead together.”
Mentioning Nepal’s constitution making process, PM Koirala pointed out that Nepal is moving forward on the path of development and Nepal’s development would contribute to the development of SAARC region as well.
All SAARC leaders emphasized on fighting terrorism, attaining sustainable peace and enhancing economic cooperation. Over all, they stressed on having a peaceful and prosperous region.
