It is reported that eleven people including a gunman were killed in a shooting that took place today at the Fort Hood military base in Texas.

The gunman was a soldier stationed at the base and has been named as Major Malik Nadal Hasan by the army. He was about to be sent to Iraq.

Ten of the dead were soldiers and the other one was a civilian police officer. The motive for the shooting is still unknown and investigation is ongoing with the base locked down.
