An 11-year-old orphan from Myagdi district who was severely beaten up a few days ago on the charge of stealing Indian Rs 10 has died of his injuries in a hospital Sunday.
Jeevan Shrestha, 11, who was beaten up by Aslam Khan, a butcher, nine days ago breathed his last at Manipal Medical College in Pokhara Sunday morning.
He had been brought to Pokhara after his treatment was not possible in Myagdi Hospital and Baglung Hospital.
A second grader at Prakash Higher Secondary School in Beni, Myagdi district headquarters, Shrestha was severely thrashed by Khan after he caught Shrestha eating biscuits with Khan´s son Mustafa, who had picked IRs 10 from his meat shop, according to the victim´s uncle Deepak Shrestha.
The HIV-infected boy from Arthunge VDC-1 was living with his uncle after his parents died of infection.
“We brought the injured nephew to Pokhara after taking to other hospitals and he breathed his last at the Intensive Care Unit this morning,” Deepak said.
He had sustained injuries in the throat, back and heart and the uncle claimed that Aslam even gave some money to garner around Rs 60,000 spent in the failed treatment.
Police have arrested Aslam, who accused Jeevan of collusion with his son in the theft, and said preliminary investigations have showed that the boy died of beating. Police are awaiting post mortem report before trying Aslam for murder.
